Winter Hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper

April 9, 2024 by Chelsea Findling Leave a Comment

The winter hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper was a gorgeous walkable area. We had never been there before and enjoyed discovering a new section of trails. Even though we were in the forest, we saw views of the mountains through the trees. It was a relatively easy hike allowing us to exercise outdoors in nature. We were fortunate to experience lots of snow during our hike, making exploring in winter wonderland fun. I felt like a kid again making snow angels in the deep snow. Marjorie Lake was beautiful with a light dusting of snow.

Map to Marjorie Lake

Map of Marjorie Lake

This map is just beyond the parking lot and fits only three or four vehicles. With less snow accumulation, there might be additional space for an extra car or two. The parking lot is off Bonhomme Street on the far west side of the town.

Winter Hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper is a 4.5-kilometre hike. There are different trails and loops you can take to reach Marjorie Lake.

As shown on the map, the trail goes much further than we went. There are a variety of trails you can take to make it into an all-day hike if you’d like to explore more of the area.

Beautiful Mountain View

Beautiful mountain views while on a winter hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper.

We started the winter hike to reach Marjorie Lake in Jasper on 3e and continued on the number 3 trail. Returning, we hiked on number 3 to complete the loop. It’s a gorgeous walk with a beautiful view of the mountains. Mountains could be seen throughout our entire hike even though a few trees were blocking our view. Sometimes, side paths would lead us toward the edge of a hill to see the entire length of the valley. We took every chance we could to see unobstructed views.

The mountain to the far left in the above photo features the Jasper SkyTram that showcases multiple valleys of the region, once you’ve reached the top. It’s quite a sight to see on a stunning clear blue sky day. I highly recommend checking it out if you have time. It costs $67/adult during the day. You can save a bit of money if you choose to go early in the day or late in the evening, at a rate of $53.60/adult.

Snowy Trail

We made a narrow trail through the snow with our footsteps. The trail has a bit of uphill and downhill to keep the excitement and heartbeat up but easy to hike.

Tip: Make sure you have winter boots such as Olang Parigi 2.0 Spike Boot to keep you warm while hiking if you encounter lots of snow as we did. You’ll also want to ensure that your boots go up past your ankle to prevent snow from entering your boot. Wearing MEC Kokanee Gore-Tex Gaiters might be a good idea as well as they will prevent snow from rising up your pant leg and keep the snow out of your footwear.

Family Picture

The sun came out at the right time for us to take a family picture! It lit up the mountains and the snow covering the lake. It’s a perfect hike for couples.

Marjorie Lake

Marjorie Lake

The winter hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper was a spectacular find! It was so picturesque at this lake. It would have been awesome to continue exploring but unfortunately, we were pressed for time. We will be back to discover some more trails whether it’s in the summer or winter. It might be nice to compare and contrast between the two seasons. The beautiful hike will need to be included in Jasper Hikes: Best Memories.

Picture of myself at Marjorie Lake

It’s a wonderful spot to capture pictures of you in the outdoors in Jasper National Park. Depending on the weather, you might see differences in the background settings with more or less snow. The sky could be cloudy or a bright blue sky day. The change in temperature and season can create a whole different scenery which makes it kind of magical.

Beautiful Snowy Scenery

Beautiful scenery while on a winter hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper.

The snow was so fluffy closer to the lake. The snow coated the trees with thick layers. It was a fun place to make snow angels. It was a delightful atmosphere to be in the mountains surrounded by snow in the trees. We weren’t very far from the town of Jasper either but it felt like we were far enough away from the busyness of tourists. We only saw another couple. It was nice to be the four of us exploring a new destination in winter.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a simple walk, a winter hike to Marjorie Lake in Jasper is the answer! It was an easy walk with some uphills and downhills, with mountain views and constantly changing scenery. The views were gorgeous and felt amazing to feel far away from the town while it was only a few minutes away. It’s a short hike to get in some exercise if you don’t want to go too far or don’t have the stamina for a steep hike. The snow added a nice touch to our winter hike. It was a magical hike for couples to spend time together.

The nice part of this hike is that it can be an in-and-out hike if you wish but it can turn into a loop if you prefer. There are are variety of trails in the region with different distances allowing you to go on a longer hike exploring if you want. Time to go outside with your partner and get some exercise!
