Are you tired of the snow and cross-country skiing and ready for warmer weather? Top 10 Activities from Majestic Resorts are here to help you figure out what you’d like to do when you arrive at this resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Depending on your budget and if you have children, there are three different resort choices. Colonial is the cheapest followed by Elegance with the most expensive being Majestic Mirage. Majestic Colonial and Elegance are catered towards families with many fun activities scheduled in the pools and on the resort grounds, compared to Majestic Mirage, which is more low-key.
Many activities have an emphasis on being in the ocean or the pool. Some are located on the resort and can be done independently and other activities require you to leave with a group for a paid excursion. It all depends on what you’re interested in experiencing and seeing.
Table of Contents
1. Swimming in the Ocean
The first of the Top 10 Activities from Majestic Resorts, is swimming in the ocean in Punta Cana. It’s my number one reason for going there! The beach is so easy to access, right in front of the resort. There are often huge waves that are fun to swim in, bringing you up and down for a ride. The water is so warm and clear here, encouraging you to stay in the ocean for a long time. It’s much easier to swim here compared to swimming in our cold Rocky Mountain Lakes!
Tourists often bring their inflatables to lie on and bake in the sun. Inflatables are also available for purchase on the resort if you forget yours or decide that you want one.
A lycra (stretchy swimsuit material) shirt can help reduce sunburns and stay warm if you like staying in the ocean for long periods of time.
Flags
You’ll see different coloured signs on the beach, depending on the conditions. Do you ever wonder what they mean? Here’s a breakdown of what the beach warning flags mean. It’s important to know their significance.
Red: high harzard (high surf and/or strong currents).
Yellow: medium hazard (moderate surf and/or currents).
Green: low hazard (calm conditions).
Swimming on an Excursion
If you choose to go on a water excursion, like the catamaran adventure, swimming will be at a different location; a fantastic place to experience.
2. Catamaran Experience
The catamaran experience involved going on a speed boat toward a snorkelling location followed by swimming and a beach lunch at Saona Island. We finished the trip with a catamaran ride back to land. This awesome all-day experience costs $165.42 CAD/person. Book Saona Island and snorkelling.
Snorkelling
We weren’t able to see much colourful coral or fish snorkelling at our location, unfortunately. Most of the plants were bleached. A few different fish could be seen swimming around our snorkelling area.
Tip: Bring your snorkelling mask and goggles. Especially, now that we’ve lived through Covid-19, the idea of sharing a snorkel with someone else who has previously used it (even though they get sanitized well) is unappealing. The snorkel and mask cost $69 in Edmonton; worth investing in them at home and bringing them in your suitcase. Make the best of the snorkeling portion of the expedition if that’s included in your package but don’t have high expectations. I don’t recommend doing a snorkelling-only trip. Keep your money for other excursions.
Swimming
The swimming conditions were excellent! As you can see from the pictures above, the ocean was a beautiful turquoise colour, so clear for swimming. It was wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful scenery. The ocean was calm with small waves. Very enjoyable swimming and relaxing.
Tip: bring an underwater camera if you can afford to buy one. It makes taking pictures in the water so much easier!
Lunch
The lunch was delicious! They had an assortment of food to pick from as well as soft drinks. Alcoholic drinks were provided. Tipping them is customary.
Tip: bring cash in US currency to the hotel for excursions and tipping. You’ll need to use some money to tip the bar and lunch waiters on this excursion.
Catamaran
The trip on the catamaran was relaxing in the sunshine after a day of adventure. It was a great way to finish off the day!
Tip: When going on excursions in Punta Cana, if you want to use toilet paper in the washrooms, you’ll have to supply it yourself. That was an unwelcome surprise! The tour guide managed to find a single roll for twenty women; two squares are better than nothing right?! Keep that in mind. Bring some Kleenex with you or something!
3. Swimming in the Pools
Swimming
The pools are the width of the resort allowing plenty of space for people to spread out and not feel crowded when swimming. The water is nice to swim in. Refreshing after soaking up the sun. It can be a nice break to swim in water that isn’t salty. Tourists often relax on the inflatables in the pools too.
Bali Beds
Many Bali beds are scattered along the edge of the pool to relax between swims. It’s possible to leave some stuff on a Bali bed to save that spot while going to eat lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Stay Hydrated during Top 10 Activities from Majestic Resorts
To keep hydrated drink plenty of water from water bottles. Tourists from Canada and the United States will get sick if they drink tap water. Waiters and waitresses will bring you drinks as well if you wish.
Tip: Tip your waiters and waitresses. They don’t make a lot of money and rely heavily on their tips to make a living.
Towels
No need to bring down your perfectly white bathroom towels from your room to the pools or the beach. Grab beach towels from the towel building in the middle of the two Majestic Mirage buildings or at the end of each resort wing.
At the Majestic Elegance, they have fun activities for families and couples in the pools including dancing, games and foam pool parties!
4. Foam Pool Party
We participated in a foam pool party. The foam took over the entirety of the pool. Many adults and children participated in this event. We had a wonderful time dancing (or trying to dance) to the music, while covered in foam! I was unsure initially as it was different than anything I had done before but it turned out to be a lot of fun! It felt like being a kid again. It’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new things! You never know what you’ll like to do!
5. Walking Along the Beach
Unforgettable Hiking in Bolzano offers a moderately easy hike. If you’re looking for something a bit easier, Punta Cana offers a different kind of walk on the beach. It’s possible to walk a few kilometres depending on how long you want to walk.
Tip: Keep in mind that if you’re planning to go for a long walk, make sure to bring lots of water! Put on lots of sunscreen, potentially a light shirt or shawl to protect your neck, shoulders and back from looking like a lobster! A sun hat will help protect your head and shoulders as well.
A few kilometres away offers an open-air market to buy paintings, shirts, dresses, and sculptures, to name a few. Bring US dollars with you to purchase items. They have gorgeous items for sale. Kris and I have bought many items from different vendors. Make sure to barter, as their initial prices are sky high in the hopes that you’ll fall into the tourist trap and pay a high price.
Tip: It can take a while to arrive at the market as the heat makes it slow to walk at a reasonable pace without melting (coming from a lady living in Canada).
6. Top 10 Activities from Majestic Resorts: Kayaking
If you’re interested in kayaking in the ocean in Punta Cana, kayaking Desolation Sound will help you get ready!
Complimentary Package
Kayaks are part of the complimentary package for this all-inclusive resort and don’t require an additional cost. You’ll be required to sign a waiver saying that they aren’t liable if something happens to you. The two-seater kayaks can be taken out based on availability.
Relaxation
We went to take them out right before lunch (we weren’t paying attention to the time, something that happens quite often when in relaxation mode). We were able to take them out for thirty minutes. Turns out it was enough time to get a good feeling about kayaking. It was quite windy that day, the waves were big to maneuver through, even for an experienced kayaker, like myself. It’s very different to kayak past the waves than starting from shore, going through rough waves. These kayaks don’t have skirts or a rudder making them difficult to steer. We found ourselves going in circles even with J-strokes and backpaddling, not the perfect system.
Hot Sun
We didn’t have much cloud cover either. I felt like the sun was scorching us while kayaking. As we were unable to be in the shade or go for a quick dip, thirty minutes felt like an eternity.
Tip: choose a day that isn’t super windy to give yourself a chance for success. You’ll need a partner, family member or friend to join you as the two-seater will be too difficult to manage on your own. Try to pick a day that has some cloud cover, so you don’t melt. Bring water with you to keep hydrated and wear a lycra swim shirt to prevent you from getting a sunburn. Splash water on yourself throughout your kayak trip to prevent heat exhaustion. It can be difficult to take pictures when kayaking, you might need to take a few to get some good ones.
7. Parasailing
We tried parasailing for the first time! We hung in the air in harnesses with a rope attached behind a boat and stayed up there for about eight minutes. That was a cool experience! It was possible to see our surroundings including our resort from a few resorts away, where we signed up for parasailing. This experience was an extra cost. Depending on which company you choose, you can pay anywhere from 76 CAD to 182 CAD. Totally worth it! These companies can be found walking along the beach. Compare the different prices.
8. Top 10 Activities from Majestic Resorts: Windsurfing
We didn’t manage to go windsurfing ourselves but I took a picture of someone else who tried it. Windsurfing is part of the free complimentary package of rentable items at Majestic Mirage. Feel free to take it out and try it. We didn’t feel comfortable without lessons or practice to head out on our own, especially on the couple of windy days we had at the end of our trip. Three to four people can fit on a single windsurfing platform.
Tip: if you’re trying it out for your first time, go on a calm day or practice at home before arriving at the Majestic resorts to boost your confidence. You don’t want to get caught far out in a sketchy situation struggling to get back to shore.
9. Romantic Supper on the Beach
Romantic Ideas
For romantic ideas, 14 fun Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day, suggested having a romantic fondue together to celebrate! This one is another romantic idea! Why not try a romantic supper on the beach? Especially where it’s hot, this is such a pleasant way to spend an evening with your significant other.
Crazy Fun Supper Experience
We treated ourselves to supper to celebrate our engagement. It was a fantastic opportunity to dress up as well! I’m rarely warm enough to feel comfortable wearing a sundress (I’m normally wearing many layers). It was a bit of a crazy experience with the windy conditions trying to be cute and romantic while enjoying our supper in my dress and Kris’ shirt flying all over the place. But that made it even more fun, trying something different that we wouldn’t get the chance to experience at home. The background was a bit spooky. It was that dark in the background. I’m surprised we got a picture of us visible!
Courses for Supper
The supper consisted of a green salad or octopus soup (decided to play it safe choosing a green salad, the octopus at the French restaurant the previous night threw me for a loop). The mushroom soup was delicious! For supper, we had the choice to choose lobster and steak or two steaks. I had lobster and steak, while Kris had two steaks. Lemon cheesecake was for dessert. It was a tasty meal! It costs us $150 USD each for the beach supper. Worth it!
Tip: Treat yourself to a different experience than you’d get at home, you’ll be happy you did. Be honest with your food preferences. They will be more than happy to accommodate you.
10. Outdoor Nightly Concerts
They have outdoor nightly concerts. This one was Rock music for one hour. Other nights, they had Michael Jackson, 80’s music, Latino night. They tried to have a beach party with a DJ but unfortunately, the event got rained out after one hour and we weren’t able to partake in the festivities after we finished our supper. The concerts are lively and it’s a nice way to end your day.
Depending on where your room is located, you might be able to hear the music from your balcony or private Bali bed on the rooftop and enjoy winding down closer to your room. The theatre offers drinks if you want a nightcap before bed.

Final Thoughts
There are so many options depending on your preferences. If you’re a water lover, you’ll have plenty of fun experiences with different water adventures. Treat yourself to a romantic supper on the beach. It’s worth it! Have fun at a foam pool party or the nightly concerts, relax by the resort beach or go on a catamaran adventure. Try different activities and push yourself out of your comfort zone with parasailing. You only live life once!

Oh my God! That looks soo much fun!!! I wish I had a partner who would take me down there….willing to share? 😉 Haha.
Did you do ALL those activities? It looks like a blast….maybe one day, it must have been expensive?? I need to add the Carribean to my bucket list!
Chelsea Ross says
It was a blast, Celine! To be fair, I’m the one that encouraged him to go in March. I’m the one with the travel bug. Maybe you need to convince someone to join you 😉
We did all those activities except windsurfing, as it was too windy when we were last there. The three Majestic Resorts are all-inclusive so for the two of us to stay at Majestic Mirage it cost $5000 including flights, our stay and food/drinks. Yes, it’s expensive but for a week of relaxation with almost everything accessible on-site, we find it worth it. The catamaran, parasailing and the beach supper were an additional cost but that’s entirely your call if you want to add that extra expense. Majestic Mirage where we stayed is a five-star hotel. We loved it both times we went! I would highly suggest going 🙂 They also have Majestic Elegance and Colonial which are cheaper. That could also be an option. Flights might be cheaper from where you live as well compared to Canada. If you look up Majestic Mirage on Expedia as a package deal, you’ll be able to see how much it will cost you. Then you can start saving 🙂
