Hiking is a wonderful activity but when there aren’t picnic tables or nice thick grass to sit on at lunch, it can feel a bit awkward to find a place to sit. You most likely don’t want to stand, since you’ve probably had to walk a fair distance to reach a lunch spot and sitting on jagged rocks doesn’t seem appealing either. Have you thought of using a MEC seat cushion? It’s super convenient to use anywhere you go! It’s lightweight, stores easily, and most importantly it’s thick enough not to feel the ground under you! The MEC seat cushion is an excellent addition to your hiking gear to bring on any hike you’re considering doing.

Thickness
As you can see by the picture, the MEC seat cushion is thick holding Rocky’s weight. It allows your butt awesome protection from rocks when hiking or putting it on snow while taking a break from cross-country skiing. It is comfortable to sit on and protects your body from the elements. Sitting directly on the snow in winter can be uncomfortable and will likely drench your pants making it cold to ski the remainder of the way. Metal picnic tables offer a cold surface in the winter but a MEC seat cushion can make it comfortable.
In winter, if pants don’t dry, it could potentially lead to hypothermia; something you want to avoid. I’ve used mittens as a barrier between the snow and my butt but then the mitts get cold as well as my hands. It’s not a good alternative. I find some cushions uncomfortable to sit on but this one provides a nice smooth material for enjoyable use.
Blowing Up MEC Seat Cushion
It’s easy to blow up with your mouth. You can determine the thickness you would like it to be. I like it firm and blown up all the way but other people might prefer less air and a bit more movement within the cushion. It’s entirely up to you how much air you would like to add. If it’s cold outside, you might have a little trouble blowing up the cushion, but remember that it only requires a few breaths.
Durability
With Rocky, our cat sitting on the MEC seat cushion, as well as myself, it is very durable. I’ve used it on many sharp rocks and it hasn’t torn. I’ve had it for many years without a tear or having to use a repair kit. It’s nice to have reliable products like this one to use for years to come.
Easy to Pack
The MEC seat cushion is easy to pack into your backpack in one of the side pockets. It can be folded in half as well if you have limited space.
Variety of Colours
It currently comes in black, green and blue colours. The orange is no longer available, unfortunately.
